Abstract

This research report presents shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of the Taiwanese tablet industry. The report includes shipment volume and value, ASP, and product mix analysis. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with notebook PC makers. The report finds that the Taiwanese tablet industry's shipment volume saw a double-digit sequential growth in the fourth quarter of 2012, mainly due to the hot sales of Apple iPad mini and other low-cost Android and Windows tablets. Following the success of iPad mini, global branded vendors all launched tablets with screen sizes less than 9 inches, thereby pushing up its share to over 50% in the fourth quarter of 2012. It is predicted that the industry's shipment volume growth will have slowed in the first quarter of 2013, seeing a sequential decline. Looking ahead to the second quarter of 2013, the industry's shipment volume is expected to pick up and continue the momentum well into the second half of 2013.
